India Domestic Air Traffic rises 18.66% in August 2015
The Indian Aviation industry saw 67.60 Lakhs (6.8 Million) air passengers traveling with the Indian domestic airlines in August 2015 as a result of which Indian domestic air traffic rose by 18.66% as per the data released by DGCA. The 8 months period of January-August 2015 saw 523.55 Lakhs (52.35 Million) passengers flying through domestic airlines, witnessing an increase of 20.84% over the same period last year, Jan-Aug 2014.
Air India increased its market share to 16.64% in August 2015 carrying 11.25 lakhs (1.12 Million) passengers, more than the 10.94 lakhs (1.09 Million) it carried in July 2015. The private carriers flew 56.35 Lakhs (5.6 Million) passengers taking market share of 83.36% in the current month.
IndiGo remained the leading domestic airline but with slightly lesser share of passengers. The carrier flew 23.85 Lakhs (2.38 Million) passengers in August 2015, securing a market share of 35.28% of the domestic air traffic market. Jet Airways secured little more share of traffic flying 13.39 Lakhs (1.34 Million) passengers with a market share of 19.81%. Air India at third position also increased its passengers share and carried 11.25 lakhs (1.12 Million) passengers, with a market share of 16.64%. Spice Jet going steady maintained its market share at 12.28% at fourth position carrying 8.3 Lakhs (0.8 Million) passengers. GoAir at fifth position managed a little passengers share with market share of 8.12% and flying 5.49 Lakhs (0.55 Million) passengers.
Jet Lite took market share of 3.03% carrying 2.05 Lakhs passengers at sixth position, while Air Asia's carried 1.34 Lakhs passengers at 7th position with a market share of 1.98%. Vistara improving its position at 8th position carried 0.99 Lakhs passengers with a market share of 1.46%. Air Costa with fewer traffic than previous two months carried 0.62 Lakhs passengers at 9th position with a market share of 0.92%. Trujet, the new entrant, managed 10th position with 0.18 Lakhs passengers and 0.27% share while Air Pegasus, with improved performance but being pushed to the 11th position, carried 0.14 Lakhs passengers with market share of 0.21%.
The top 4 domestic airlines maintained a market share of 84.0%, flying 56.79 (5.68 Million) passengers. The top five players flew a total of 62.28 Lakhs (6.23 MIllion) passengers with market share of 92.1%. The bottom six players shared 7.9% of the Indian domestic air traffic market.
