November 2014 Domestic Air Traffic Rise 14.35%

The passengers are rising with continuing problems with the airlines. Well, yes, it is Spicejet, but there are problems with others too. For the month of November 2014, the passengers carried fell slightly to 58.74 lakhs (5.87 Mn) from 59.25 lakhs (5.92 Mn) in October 2014, but grew by 14.35% from 51.37 lakhs (5.14 Mn) from November 2013. Looking at year-on-year the passenger volume was up. Total passengers carried during the period of January-November 2014 was 609.43 lakhs (60.9 Mn) up from 558.40 lakhs (55.84 Mn) for the same period last year, according to recently released data by Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The growth was 9.14%. In November 2014, all major airlines increased their market share, except for Air India and SpiceJet whose market shares declined.

IndiGo maintained its market leadership with 19.69 lakhs (1.97 Mn) passengers carried in November 2014 with a market share of 33.5%, up from 31.9% in October 2014. Following at distant second place was Jet Airways with 18.4% market share and carrying 10.81 lakhs (1.08 Mn) passengers. Air India and Spice Jet with their market shares dropped to 17.5% and 14.9%, were at the third and fourth position, respectively carrying 10.27 lakhs (1.03 Mn) and 8.76 lakhs (0.88 Mn) passengers.

Go Air, Jet Lite, Air Asia and Air Costa were at fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth positions respectively with 5.29 lakhs, 2.72 lakhs, 0.6 lakhs and 0.61 lakhs carrying passengers in November 2014. Air Asia gained a slight lead from Air Costa in this month.
